IMPACT OF MATHEMATICS AND SCIENCE INSTRUCTIONAL PRACTICES, CURRICULUM AND ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT TO THE CAREER CHOICE OF LABORATORY SCHOOL GRADUATES OF UNIVERSITY OF RIZAL SYSTEM-MORONG

Abstract

School institutions’ thrust is to produce quality graduates who will play significant roles in the development of the community, the society and the economy.  With the idea that schools influence students in many aspect and ways, the study attempted to determine if the curriculum and instructional practices employed by a school which serves as a clinical experience and practice sites for pre-service teachers and experimental teaching activities, known as a laboratory school, affect the career choice of laboratory school graduates and its senior students’ course preference.  The findings revealed that instructional practices that engage students to actively participate in their own learning, the teaching practices that enhance the development of complex cognitive skills, processes used by the teachers together with a school curriculum that emphasizes the development of Science and Mathematics, affect the career choice of its graduates who mostly took Scientific and Professional courses.  Keywords: curriculum; instructional practices; career choice
