AGRICULTURAL GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT IN THE NIGERIAN ECONOMY: THE FINANCIAL PERSPECTIVE
Abstract
This study analyzed the state of the Nigerian Agricultural Credit System since 1987 – 2000. It dealt with the problems of financing agricultural projects, the role of agricultural credit institutions such as the Central Bank of Nigeria, the Commercial and Merchant Banks, specialized lending institutions, the informal agricultural credit agencies such as moneylenders, as well as the impact of sectoral allocation of credit facilities as a monetary policy to the agricultural sector of the economy.
The paper also examined the various policy measures the government introduced to improve on the agricultural sector as well as the various sources of credit that are available to create an effective and efficient agricultural sector.
