EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION OF MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF LIME AND ALUMINIUM WASTE STABILIZED SOIL FOR SUSTAINABLE CONSTRUCTION PURPOSES
Abstract
The increasing demand for sustainable construction materials has necessitated innovative approaches to soil stabilization for improved mechanical properties. This study investigates the mechanical properties of soil stabilized with a blend of lime and aluminum waste as a sustainable construction material. Experimental tests, including compaction, unconfined compressive strength (UCS), California bearing ratio (CBR), and durability assessments, were conducted on soil samples treated with varying proportions of lime and aluminum waste. The results revealed significant improvements in the soil’s strength, load-bearing capacity, and resistance to deformation, demonstrating the synergistic effect of lime and aluminum waste in enhancing soil stabilization. Optimal stabilization was observed at specific mix ratios, which yielded maximum strength gains while reducing environmental waste. The findings highlight the potential of utilizing industrial by-products, such as aluminum waste, in combination with traditional stabilizers for sustainable and cost-effective construction practices. This research contributes to sustainable construction by promoting eco-friendly materials and minimizing reliance on non-renewable resources.
